It has a strong focus on ‘society’ and everything that entails from the balls to the gowns.

This is a propaganda film that starts with the crew of the battleship standing up for better food.

The dialogue is almost cringe suburban happy but the content is gruesome – perhaps this is funny for some?

The ridiculousness begins immediately when we are asked to believe Marshall and Gooding Jr. are in high school.

All of the main story beats are missing. The reason for this is that there is no hero.

Of course, this story is great: it’s Steinbeck. That might be why we do an adaptation every few years.

There were two excellent films; one good but not great; and two poor films nominated this year.
